starter motor advise - help

Evening all
a very, very nice AA man brought me home today, and suggests the starter is knackered, needs to get one ordered but just wondering if anybody can advise best place and prices please, its always good to save a few pounds

Try bridging it (straight from the pos battery terminal (with caution!!!!) with a jump lead before spending your dosh.

Perhaps I should be a little clearer...Pos batt to main 8mm stud on starter (nothing will happen) you then need a small wire from the spade connector (solenoid switching feed) to the jump lead (attached to 8mm stud) this should operate the solenoid and crank.
Just don't catch the stater body otherwise you will get a good spark.
The braided lead between solenoid and starter body often rot....also check gearbox earth lead and battery main terminal connections.
The other common fault is the small spade connector to the solenoid (the wire and terminal often corrode)
