Hi all just taken the van out for a long run and I have a scraping/grinding noise coming from nearside rear wheel but only when turning right? There are no sounds when turning left or driving in a straight line. As a bit of background my van was at a garege last week to have the brake lines sorted as well as new wheel bearings on all 4 wheels. I have also recently changed the shocks at the rear and fitted a 30mm Avo spring Kit. Has anyone else had this problem or any idea what it might be? Grateful for any help.

Thanks - the wheel was making a noise when I collected it, and ended up taking it back as well as to get one of the brake pipes sorted again as it was still leaking. I told the mechanic and he said he would re-adjust the shoes. When I collected it again the brake leak was fixed and he said the rear brake backplate was distorted, and should now be ok - clearly not! He did say probably need new drums etc soon but the shoes still had a lot of meat on them. When you say disc cover is that what you mean - the backplate & if so this could be the issue?

They are very expensive so try and fix/repair it first
also have the bearing checked for excessive play.. just to be sure

Ok many thanks. Hopefully it is not the bearing as they changed them all last week with the bearings I bought from Brickwerks.

But surely.....the garages labour is gauranteed, you should really take the van back to them as it's almost definately something they have done.
Not a blame game and hopefully something quite simple...like Kev said perhaps a backplate catching the drum...fingers crossed but this is down to your mechanic, you shouldn't be worrying about this.

Sounds like the bearing's have seated themselves and it needs properly tightening up (2 fat blokes and a 6 foot pole tight).

Ive got a Hub socket and a big old Scaffold Bar if you need it mate.

The camper is finally sorted. It turns out the cowboy garage I took it to had dented the rear backplate braying to get the drum off. It had been rubbing on the inside edge of the drum, scoring it down to bear metal. Dent now banged out, no longer rubbing and no more grinding noise. Good to hear that it was'nt the wheel bearing, DubAid here we come
