Hi all.

We are thinking of going away in our T25 campervan to the French Riveria. Can anyone recommend any good campsites near beaches. With pitches with room for awning.

It would have to be during the school holidays. Does this increase the price alot?

We have stayed here a couple of times, http://www.camping-giens.com/ukindex.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; nice and near the beach and very French, it seems to be a part of the Riviera that doesn't fill up with Brits and Germans.
Will still be packed in the Holidays though as is the whole Cote D'azur.
It seems for us with kids paying through the nose the last two weeks in July and all of August is just a given these days( though I've noticed some campsite rates go down in the last week of August)

All the campsites in the St. Tropez area work through a booking agency, if you want to stay there book as early as possible and be prepared to pay a LOT for the 'pleasure'. It was packed out when we were there 2 years ago and we ended up staying on an unofficial campsite set up in an orchard by a large French farmer's wife, not far from the fairground at Port Grimaud on the Cavalaire-sur-Mers road. It was €20/night without hook-up and was full very quickly.

The local roads were also jammed solid during daylight and the place has gone done the pan since we were last there in '89

You could always try over the border on the Italian Riviera, we stayed in Diano Marina which is about 2-3 hours further along the Autoroute de Provence at the Oasi Park site. http://www.oasipark.it/index.php?lang=en it was €17/night 2 years ago inc hook-up.

I agree with the others. We used to stay further along the coast at a site called Camping-Caravanning Saint-Pons at Le Lavandou. It was always packed just like the rest of the Atlantic and Mediterranean sea resorts but we enjoyed it year after year.

The plus points are that it was cheaper than around St Tropez etc it had a restaurant on site with a bar and it was about 10-15 minutes from the beach, with two supermarkets to shop in on the way to the beach, so no need to drive anywhere to get food. There are also many restaurants in the town itself and opposite the beach and a good few serious ice cream outlets. Check out the prices and if you want to visit any of these busy resort areas you will need to book in advance. Good luck.

Basic supply'n'demand. After all, it's one of the things you took into account when you chose to have kids, right?

Also, August is prime continental holiday time - all of France, all of Italy, probably other countries - they just can't begin to contemplate having a summer holiday any other time. But German schools are all back by early August, IIRC.

Basic supply and demand agreed and to be honest I don't find French campsites too bad, a lot of them lay on extra entertainment for the kids and extra stuff for the parents to do a peak times as do some of the Dutch ones. British campsites I've been to generally do s*d all with out wanting to charge even more than they already do.
When we chose to have kids, planning holidays was not the first thing to pop into my mind to be honest. :oops:I
Also its good for the kids to mix with the well behaved French ones, hoping some of it will rub off!!

i don't go between the end of may and the middle of september tho'.
