Hi all
can anyone tell me what this part is, the 'dished' washer in the middle if these three parts, that came with my new CV boot kits, one in each kit:

When I took all four apart there was no sign of such a washer being used.....??
thanks in advance...

Ahaaaaa! I have the answer:-
it's only used on Type 2s...same cv kit but with this addition, due to difference with drive shafts/axles.
Phew, thought I'd missed a bit!

You're wrong. It's because the remanufactured parts have a difference in size. You must fit the washer or there'll be slack in the joint and premature wear will occur. Just done this, so I know!

Hi
thanks for reply, but could you please be more specific? Where, exactly does it fit and what does it do?
I was puzzled and so I rang the suppliers (Brickwerks) and they told me what I quoted above....)
Thank you
FW

Just so we are all singing from the same songsheet.....
Ive received an email, with EKTA images from the suppliers, and a definative explaination:

"Firstly, these joints arent remanufactured. Theyre Brand new. Theyre made by GKN, who made the original ones. Theyre exactly the same spec as the originals.

Ive attached a couple of screen shots from ETKA which will hopefully set your mind at rest. It shows the washer in the Bay Window Joint, but not in the T3 Joint."

So that settles it..... and I publically apologise for any creeping doubt I may have had!

Hi.
Glad we set your mind at ease.
Just to add a bit more info, for the sake of comleteness.
Bay window (T2) use the same rear cv joint and same cv boot kit, the shaft however is different.
GKN supply the joint kit, and the boot kit to suit both models, however on the T3 you don't use the dished washer as the design of the shaft doesn't need or allow it.
ETKA clearly shows that the washer is used on bays but not bricks.
Simon.

I think this was the same for the Beetle 1302 - needed the washer.
