Hello,
No you need to take shaft off.
Hang cv joint in bench vice, remove rubber boot with metal ring, remove circlip. drive shaft out towards bottom USING SOFT DRIFT, remove, clean, fit boot, fit new OE quality CV joint, use all the MS grease, use torqs head bolts, (having bought tool first), might as well dismantle and grease other end as well, refit, torque down, run, recheck torque, and again after 200 miles.
Messy but fun
Cordialement,

I had to use a press to get my CV off the axle, there was no way it was coming off with hitting it absolutely jammed solid. If you have the money get a pair of axles second hand and set them up with new joints so they are greased and waiting to go on.

well all done and im sorry to say but you dont need to take shaft out. once i got the 6 bolts out of cv boot on gearbox i was able to push the shaft and the cv boot up then around so it droped down. removed sirclip then gave it a tap with hammer. off it came. put new one on. then push back up around cv mount and droped staight back in.
im suprised my self.
thanks for replying tho.

I wish I`d seen this earlier.
Mine came off without removing shaft, but I think the outer n/s needs doing so going to remove the shaft from the hub and replace rear bearing at same time.
I hate doing jobs twice
