I went out to see if my van would start, just to make sure it was fine and the battery wasn't flat. And it Started right away but with a slight problem, it will run for a bit then when I give it some revs it cuts out, I'm puzzled but it's not on the road yet so I can't get it to a machanic any suggestions? :run

When was the last time you replaced the petrol filter (near the tank on the offside) ? When was the last time you put fresh petrol in it ?

You will need a good battery to pump the fresh petrol through to the carb. IF you decide to put a tiny bit of petrol in the top of the carb to hasten this process please be VERY carefull ... we have had someone here at work in intensive care after attempting to cheat Charles Darwin by chucking an aerosol cap full into his Daimler Dart and ending up a human torch.

I'd be replacing the fuel lines too before I even try to get it running :ok

A thorough engine bay service wouldn't go amiss ... oil (15w/40 mineral x 4.5 litres), Mann W719/12 oil filter, air filter, plugs, cap and arm, possibly leads depending on their condition, use this as the start of your maintenance regime.

People will try to tell you these things thrive on neglect, they may be lucky for a while but in the long run regular maintenance beats roadside repairs every time ... it may not 100% stop you breaking down but it will reduce the chances dramatically.
