Hi,
I know a water tank discussion was already started a few posts back, but that seemed to be aimed more at the larger, under van water tanks.
Does anyone have something on a smaller scale located in a cupboard under the sink?. I am looking to have 2x jerry type water cans/containers. One with a submersible pump for clean water and one for waste. What litre size should i be looking at? I am still in the planning stage for my cabinets - they don't exist right now, but i don't want to leave myself to little space, and likewise don't want to dedicate too much space either. It won't be for drinking water, just a little bit of washing up here and there etc.

Have you considered flexible tanks like these? That is what I use for potable water.

My old Leisuredrive had two opaque white plastic 'Jerry Can' style fresh water carriers. The hose to the tap went in the top of whichever one you were using. The waste just went out a hose under the van into a bucket. The advantage of jerry cans was that you didn't have to be near a tap to replenish your water like an on board tank; the disadvantage was the overall water capacity was less.

You can just see the tops of them right at the left hand side of this picture

25 lt jerrys are just a perfect size and weight limit to carry.

when we (three adults) use the onboard tank to wash cook and drink in the van over a weekend I get through 100 lt of fresh water (20 gal)
We fit vans out with tanks and bottles for fresh water inside and underslung.. I could fit yours too

Sorry to jump on this thread but I'm trying to decide whether to fit a 20l tank inside (with a 10l carrier for emergencies) or a 54l underslung tank.

Originally the van had a 50l under the bed which was taken out for the LPG tank and I thought I'd never really need that much so thought 20l would be enough, but it's so easy to get through 10l in a day.

Obviously the 54l will mean less refilling (plus more weight) but I'm wondering what peoples experiences are with these during winter camping?

Also, how easy are the underslung tanks to fit?

Why would it be extra weight?
surely you'd fill up at the camp site?
or just enough to get you there.

under slung tanks are easy but you'll need to drill the floor
some fittings use the chassis

A lot of people seem to panic about how much the weight of carrying water will affect fuel consumption. A small adult will weigh in at about 60kg (10St) so a full tank is no worse than a passenger and won't have that marked an effect.


Just thought I'd mention that

I have always travelled with full tanks as I never use camps*ites, can't say that I have noticed any effect of extra weight. Both my vans are slow anyway.
