what's the craziest alternative engine you've seen?

I was offered for free a 3.0 L, 256 BHP boxer engine but turned it down.
It came out of a Sessna airplane
the thing is pretty big, runs on petrol or diesel, 2 spark plugs per cylinder, air cooled... naturally.
all logic tells me no, it couldn't be done and besides even if it did bolt up an airplane engine is geared up differently, no gearbox-direct drive to the prop (or road wheels

)
....and yet the other half of my brain is going: you knowwhat, with a can of WD-40, duck tape, and some cable ties i could get 'er to fit
what's the craziest thing people have seen and really work?

Take it.. flog it or the parts off and use the cash to buy an engine that would fit and be usable..
Lycoming's have been used in grasstrack sidecar outfits.. but driving a single wheel, on a single gear is easy.... (relativly speaking)

I got told I was an idiot for putting a type 1 2100 stroker into my T25 because it wouldn't last 5 minutes. Turns out, it's lasted so far just fine and it's a hoot.
Looking for something different to put in there now...

It's been over 20 years since I worked on Lycoming engines (ex-RAF) but I'm pretty sure the max crank RPM was about 3000RPM. The prop was driven by an epicyclic gear box to slow it down to stop the prop tips over-speeding. If you've got the talent to fit the engine, driving the van's gearbox direct off the crank shouldn't be too difficult.

Merlins were V12's. Google John Dodd to see how it should be done.

I have seen a few mental engine conversions on transporters...one had a ford pinto engine in the back and I know of people who have taken Diesel engines out and put petrols engines in the place of them!
Mental...!
