Hi guy's can i get the sump off whilst the engine stays in the van, reason is its leaking from a bad repair where the feed pipe enters so i want to det it repaired properly.

Hi Tone.
Yes you can remove the sump with the lump in situ, Slacken the 2 Gearbox lower bolts off, You can get up the back of the sump then, But you will need a 3/8th drive extension bar, Not much room but it does go.
Reversal same as when refitting ie Tighten Gearbox lower bolts before tightining sump bolts Do them up last.

Thanks Jeff good to talk to you mate, i think i might go down the 1y route as i 'm really getting fed up of this JX, hey stick a pic of your t4 up it sounds nice.

May as well do the repair mate, as you'll need the sump even if the engine
gets outed . . . and once you're repaired nicely its just the cost of a sump gasket
to have it back running.

Sounds nasty, cracked? some sort of chemical/epoxy metal might do it for now maybe even semi permanent. If you take it off I found a T-bar type hex key came in handy for getting some of the sump bolts out and in esp the ones at the bell housing end. Go round in several stages to even out the pressure. Sump gasket and oil pump are crying out to be done 'while your in there'
