Maybe buying a syncro

Hi, going to look at a syncro tomorow which i suspect may have knackered diff locks, the owner was told not to use them by the previous owner.
Is there anyway i can check them in a car park?
If i do operate them, are they likely to lock in and not disengage?

They are more likely to not engage, dont let it put you off buying the van. One of the cheaper things to fix, and i would say most people who have bought a syncro have had to free them off

IF they engage you will know by turning the steering wheel on a tight lock. Idfthe rear is engaged the rear tyres will scrabble. If the front is engaged it will be difficult to steer other than in a straight line.

I doubt if they will engage cuz if you dont operate then fairly regularly they will seize 'disengaged'

Thanks everyone, turned out i didn't even get to drive it to find out about the diff locks. The body work was full of filler around the seems and bottoms of panels, then liberally splashed with hamerite. The vendor didn't like my offer :( Anyone know of a diesel for about 5K for sale?
