cyclinder head - compatibility?

I'm trying to source a replacement cyclinder head for my 1.6 (non-turbo) deisel engine, as we have a crack inside one of the chambers on ours. These seem quite difficult to get hold of - I had a few trails, but have gone quiet. Now I have had an offer of a 1Y head, but I thought 1Y was only 1.9, and therefore wouldn't be compatible? If anyone can enlighten me, I'd be much appreciated. My van has been in the garage too long now, and it's time to get back on the road!

As far as I know a 1y will fit on a 1.6 but not the other way around check vwdiesel(google it) lots of info on the forums there

If the crack is not encroaching on the valve seats, waterway, oilway and is small, ignore it. Virtually all these heads have them and cause no problems. My 1.6 has been running for donkey's years with them.
A pic. would give us a clue or a fuller description of the crack.
