Hello all,

I've got a toad immobilsor on my van, it has a small fob attached to my key ring.

If I try to start the van without it, it simply lights up on the dash and remains silent.

If I place the fob near the ignition barrel, it makes a humming noise for about 3 seconds. I can then turn the key and it should start.

The fault:
Now when I turn the key (after hearing the 3second humming noise) it just continues to hum and doesn't even attempt to start

It has done this once before, after I serviced the van. It turned out to be a loose wire near my air filter. I've had a good look around and cannot see any loose wires. I've disconnected, cleaned and reconnected most connections in the engine bay, no luck.

Any ideas? I think I have found the immobilsor and I would like to get rid of it, but would know where to start.

Fixed it, after getting to the hidden immobilisor, I found a number of connections that looked abit old and worn. Clean these back and reconnected, jobs a goodin

Now, should I continue to use the van with only 1 immobilisor fob

Or would a proffesional alarm fitter remove it for me?

Me personally, I would use a mechanical immobiliser, like a battery key.

I'm looking into new alarms, because I want a really good, reliable system. I suppose a mechanical immobiliser and a decent alarm would give me the best of both worlds. They can't break in without making a noise and can't drive off without getting around the mechanical immobiliser.

Any suggestions for the immobiliser?

Your battery position would deter the youf, but you could mount the key along any part of the long cable to the battery

sorry, I meant places I could pay some dollers to get the job done. I'm almost sure that they provide a certificate of installation, something to put towards the insurance discount.

Taking out the Toad fob system and going to replace it with an alarm.

From what your suggesting, I'm guessing a mechanical immobilisor would be an extra that could be added for extra security.

So, does anyone know somewhere I could pay and get this done?!

it really is a very simple job

Im pretty sure the Installation of a Thatcham alarm system needs to be done by an approved fitter in order to provide a certificate for the insurance company.

Question was, where can I pay to get it done...

I would like a certificate for installation and I'm not always home to get work done myself, hence why I pay for most jobs I don't find interesting or useful to learn. Simples

No point saving £'s on installation if the insurance company decide they won't pay up.
