Hi,

Has anyone come up with the best way of stopping a child falling out of the upper bed in an autosleeper poptop? I was thinking of building a ladder that doubles as a fence / stair gate thing. Not sure if anyone has done this before?

We used a tomy beg guard that I adapted, but to be honest it was a right pain when not in use, and a bit of a pain when it was. The best I have seen was a mate who bought a cargo bungee thing and screwed hooks at the four corners of the bed and for it to hook onto. Dead simple and packed away small.

I built this to keep the boys safe. Just need to glue some brackets to hold it.

Have you thought about rigging something up with cargo netting with finer mesh? the likes of which you find in estate cars. Designed to take weight and easily stored and could be secured with fixed rings and carbiner type clips.

I used a kids football goal net cut to fit the shape of the hightop. P clipped to the leading egde of the high top bed pull out section. I then fixed 2 terry clips tot eh ceiling liner panel and inserted an extendable shower rail through the top edge of the netting which clips into place. It's light, stows away to nothing and also acts as a cargo net to THE hightop when travelling. Took about 20 minutes to build and fit.

The kids never came near to falling out, but I got fed up with several nightly calls to pick up pillows, teddies and books, let alone the thud of kids torches hitting the deck.

I bought a lightweight hammock on ebay. That could be adapted I'm sure. Have a nose. Just cut and tie it to fit. Was only about £6
