Bleed screw on Rad?

Sprung a leak today from the top left hand side of the rad { drivers side-RHD}
split in the hose? no big deal, cut it back and gave it a little tug to make sure it would fit back on , the whole thing came away in my hand.
Its about 18" long with a bolt shoved up the end?
Got home and had a look in the Haynes manual and from what i could see its the rad bleed screw ?
Confused.
Stop leaking but gauge very high even with the fan manualy switched on, could i have air in the system ? best way to sort it ?

Only went to Terry's Beetles to get the gearbox oil changed , lost an hour messing with the rad etc and while under the van noticed one tyre had gone down to the ribbing, so bought 2 @ £48 each ...wish i'd gone to work instead :lol:
