Hi, I have a t25 1986 autosleeper with pop up roof, does anyone know the best way to attach a kayak to it? I don't know if a normal roof rack would do the trick?
Cheers

I think there was a thread on this just this week if you have a search...

Hello, i mentioned this the other week. My van has a roof bar at the front, it came with the van
!
It bolts onto the roof through two ridges o/s and n/s. I think it would be fairly easy to reproduce.

For a non-permanent rack try a soft rack (on-line surf stores). Some have a gutter hook to suit older cars that would fit under the fibreglass edge of the pop top (with a twist to the strap). You tension this bit to fit snug on the roof and then use the secondary strap to secure the load through a buckle. I used to be able to stack up 4/5 boards, but they also did a longer version. The more modern soft racks tend to go through the door aperatures so wouldn't be any good. I think Bull Dog used to do them.

What boat do you have?
When I've been desperate (Van too full) I used strapped my Pyranha S6 to the top of the cab using the luggage loops

I am after something similar. I want to sling two kayaks (Nomad Pro-am Extra slalom and a plastic Saber) to the sides of the high-top. I was thinking of a rigid rack, attached to the gutters, that I could tie the boats to the side of. But would a 'soft' rack be of any use instead?

Perfect, and some lovely photos, if only Notty was not a high-top with a roof 3 or 4 times the height of yours! That is why I want to sling them on the side instead of the top.
