Sliding side door fell off!

The evening before setting off in t'car for France pour le ski, quite a while ago now, the blody side door of the van fell off as I opened it to put everything away!

At rear of door, the vertical roller (which runs along the greasy horizontal upstand) "split" -- as I always suspected could happen -- and one bit, the inside "washer " , was left behind the upstand.
The "washer" on the other side of the roller ( the roller seems to be two big washers with a ball race held vaguely within) came out with the door, which swung gracefully out held by the top front roller.

Has this happened to anyone else? Could it be due to a weak spring on the rear roller mechanism, or is there a way to join the two halves (washers) of the horizontal roller together??

I wrestled the door back almost on then locked it and left it.

common problem

more so with the earlier type roller - basically the groove wears that much that it splits in two!

new parts needed ( 2nd hand cos there are no new!)

Kevtherev,

That pic is exactly what happened to mine too -- and when the inner wheel splits off, the door falls off. Did yours? And how did you fix it? Maybe Ishould turn the bearing around............

yip, happened to ours a couple of years ago in Wales, the missus pulled the door closed and the next thing it was sitting at 45 degrees... she refuses to go near it ever since... I do worry it will happen again, it seems an awful amount of energy and force to close it. :?

Another victim here, happened just as we closed the door to head off for a weekend away. Nearly landed on my foot and scared the life out of me to boot.

I replaced all the rollers on the centre hinge with the ones from Brickwerks. An easy and cheap fix once you suss out the spot on the runner where you guide the large roller on to the track (near the centre). Easy to see once you remove the cover panel from the side of the van.
