hi, i'm new to club80-90 forums so sorry if this is in the wrong place, I've been looking for about five months for a VW T25 to buy and have see one advertised for sale on the internet. The main concern I have is when I looked online via the vosa website the most recent mot had a failure for a few reasons but the following was what concerned me:

Offside sill Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings (6.1.3)

Nearside foot step Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings (6.1.3)

Appreciate from what I've read that steps do corrode and near repair. I think the person that owns the van had some welding done so that the van would pass the mot.. My question to experienced T25 owners is would you buy a T25 if you knew it had corrossion to the chassis, or should i keep looking... Any advice would be appreicated. :)

the step is a pretty usual part to have replaced, and isnt really a failure, corrosion in the sill is another common place to have repairs, just depends how well it was done to wether you have to do it again, i.e just patched for MOT or repaired properly. Some pictures would help a lot
cheers, lloyd

I would say thishttps://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=96212might be a good bet.
A forum member so easy to get hold of if anything goes wrong.

Depends on your budget really.

The foot/cab step is not a fail, just a pass and advise. So although it still needs repairing, dont worry about it to much ref MOT. You just need to take it to a good tester...Ref the question, its rare that you see corrosion on the chassis on these vans, they are built like tanks. The corrosion is going to be on the inner and outer sills..You need to be checking them..

thanks for your replies, jon my budget is more around the £4000 mark the van in that link was 1982 i'm trying to get 1985 upwards.. the van i described with the corrison is a 1987.

Just to check so the answer was pretty much if the welding has been done to a good standard then it can be okay, and not necessarily avoided like the plague if you wanted to buy it....but you would have to be prepaired to get further welding done....

thanks for your help
