Hi All

Im refitting the interior in me van and am fitting the front amp under the drivers seat , cd changer under the passenger seat, and have a powered sub for the boot. But im fitting all the wiring so its nice and tidy under the carpet and rear flooring

My question is what size power cable should I be using for the powered sub, It has a 200 watt built in amp and its got a run of 4 1/2 metres to get from the battery to the back.

Its been a while since I dabbled in the world of in car entertainment so not to sure what to get

cheers James

you'll need cable to take 16 amps so 1.5mm is adequate

Watts divided by volts equals amps so 200 divided by 12.5 volts approx = 16amps assuming the volume is turned up full.
You wouldn't want to run a cable that close to it's rating and you need to take into account a certain voltage drop over 4.5 metres.
2mm2 is 17.5amps too close
3mm2 is 27.5amps and what I would recommend.

20amp inline fuse/holder
