Stalling..ahhh!

I have posted this before but it seems to have foxed the best of you!
87 DJ 2.1 syncro.... Recently retimed to run 98ron 10deg blah blah. Since doing this it's never run better a dream to start and drive except for the first minute in summer and 3 mins at this time of year it will not idle ,but after this time all is fine....... Except on full steering lock(PAS) it stalls again even when up to temp and it's REALLY STARTING TO DO ME 'ED IN!!! Somebody help pleeease!

Had similar problems recently which was caused by a non working aux air regulator. Might be worth a try. New ones are bloody expensive though

And sits on top of the engine with two wires running from it. It's supposed to be buzzing/vibrating, if not it's buggered.

Well funny you should say that as when mr PETEANALI timed it for me we couldn't get it to idle below 11/1200 rpm... Turned out that in the 9 yrs of owning the van it had always had the wrong one fitted.. 1.8 gti golf!! Have the right one now but is it perfect... Don't know!

Hi Andy,
In too deep...!
If the idle control valve is still buzzing and vibrating when you touch it then I think it should be OK.
If your PAS makes it stall then other elements of the Digijet system may be coming into play. One may be the idle stabiliser that is located in front of the off side rear light cluster (its a black box that looks like a big relay). I know that I have read about PAS affecting idle if all is not right but I can't remember exactly what to go for. One of the DJ experts on here should be able to help you out. Syncrosimon?? Kevtherev?? California Dreamin?? Various peeps from Ireland??

Connections on the Idle Stabiliser are a bit of a "veryniceperson" for fuzzing up. As are the earth points in the engine bay. Cleaned those up on my MV and got a much better run and significantly less full-lock-stall.

Just to give you a further bit info that may have been overlooked......
I notice you've got 16" wheels and a bit of Suspension lift as has my Doka which does have a tendency to STALL on full lock with PS until I remember to re-grease the front couplings on the shafts.
I had to replace the coupling spacers to lengthen the front shafts to stop them binding on full lock.........
Hope thats of some help?

Just to clarify.
1. If you were stationary on tick over only and turned the steering to full lock does it stall the engine? if so Goto 3.
2. When you are driving along and you turn to full lock does it stall the engine?(ie turning sharply into a parking spot) if so Goto 4.
3. does your engine rpm rise slightly when you move the steering wheel away from straight ahead when on tick over and stationary. If rpm does not rise then your idle stabilisation system is not working correctly as it should compensate for engine power demanded by the power steering.
4. Suspect that the VC is stiff and the engine does not have enough power to do a full lock turn or other driveline problem causing resistance in the bend enough to stall as per justavan
Clear as Mudd!! But that should separate a driveline problem or an injection fuel management problem.

Thanks Simon.... No the idle dosent increase when the wheel is turned and yes it does stall on full lock when stationary ... I have a spare little box the lives behind the tail light so I'll swap that and see.. Thanks again
