I recently bought a 1991 VW T25 pickup which has a shall we say rather tired petrol engine which is not fitted currently, it's in the back in bits along with the 5 speed gearbox, I intend to convert it to a more modern 1.9 Turbo diesel engine, a good friend has offered me a golf engine with the code 1Y, has anybody out there got any experience of fitting this type of engine. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

all you need to know and If I recall the 1y is a 1,9 non turbo
