Hi.
I've got a poor running 2.1 DJ & I can't get my head around how the ignition system works.
Can some one please explain, how it works? where things connect? what they do?
Picture would be great. (saw some great ones on a thread yesterday, but can I find them now????)

its pretty complex, the bentley manual has the testing procedures. in a nutshell there is a air temperature + airflow sensor engine temperature and engine speed sensor the ECU takes all these readings and delivers fuel based on a predetermined fuelling map. Over riding this there is idle and full throttle switches. There is no feedback from an exhaust gas analyser (lamda) on the DJ its 'dumb' so to speak unlike the MV which adjusts fueling based on lamda probe. Switches, sensors, ECU, idle stabaliser unit, can all go wrong. Easiest is to swap out a known good unit to see if it makes a difference, or go through the bentley testing. Apart from faulty sensor common culprits are unmetered air entering the system, or worn out air flow meter, blocked injectors, faulty HT leads, the list goes on. Might be easier to explain your symptoms.

Thanks for taking the time Bob.
Symtoms are on other thread, but was after what can/would cause a weak/orange/lazy spark on turn-over?

I think the coil possibly being on the way out would be one thing I'd be checking if your spark isn't strong and blue.

Cheers Pete,
Yeah van had a cheap 'orrible Indian coil fitted (which may of damaged the Hall unit) when bought, I fitted a proper (and good when last used by me) green label one. So I don't think its that, I will double check as-per Bentley when I get chance.
