syncro suspension lift

i wouldnt mind fitting some of Simon Baxters suspension lifters - 30mm? - to my 14" with 15s on and fiarly chunky rubber.

is there likely to be any issues with bushed or particularly drive shafts CVs if they are running at a sharper angle?

any thoughts please :D

I have no issues with the lift I did which is exactly as you describe. Everything is standard bar the rear shocks and the lift kit. Nope, you dont need HD CV joints, front shock extenders or top ball joint spacers .. !!

Really.......are you sure....if engineers make stuff for over 20mm lift isnt it because people have had failures??????

First thing I did with mine when I got it was to lift it and nothing has failed yet

what wheel centre to arch height are you aiming for. its all well and good saying you want to lift it but lifting a van 40mm thats sagged 50mm over the years..................

well you get my drift.

i "THINK" 515mm is upper height factory setting so up to this you`ll be fine with standard components.

What about lifting a 16". Mine all looks stock underneath so I assume it's gonna be a bit tired to the tune of 200k km. I would like to freshen it up eventally and also vanity dictates a high look if poss. What's a pragmatic way to approach this....as above or are there other options? Got plenty on my plate so just ruminating at mo

I put 30mm spacers on mine, and its now at standard height (480mm hub nut>arch). Had mine parked next to a very lifted 14" and going by bumper level I only gave away 5-10mm. You gain about 30mm minimum just by having the 16" wheels

same applies to 16" and 14"

obviously bigger the tyres in diameter the higher you`re going to be.

lifting the rear is simple just add spacers as required. you can add and subtract the spacer thickness to get the height you need.

fronts are more time consuming. i went for the avo adjustable platform and you can adjust the height simply with this system otherwise its front springs on and off untill you`re happy.

thanks for the points chaps.

mine has been to bits several times over the years including fitting some "fresher" springs from syncro spares several years ago. more recently its had new lower arm, cast type, and new bushes and roll bar links.

ive just measured it C/C to wheel arch and its 480mm unloaded :? so i am thinking i would be safe with 30mm plates?

A question for those who have fitted spacers.

Mentioned above are '30mm' spacers. Are the spacers themselves 30mm thick or do they produce a 30mm difference in suspension height? (given that the springs/shocks act maybe 2/3rds of the way along the front lower arm and should give something like 1.5 times their thickness in lift).

I think the weight of the vehicle and state of the springs will influence whether any limits (to VC articulation, damper travel) are encountered after a 'lift' using shims. What works for one, may well not work for another.

FWIW I put in 20mm lift shims on my pickup, and have had no problems except occasional topping-out of the rear dampers. The springs are standard and ~20 yrs old AFAIK. Gary, my 20mm spacers gave around 25mm body lift IIRC.

Same here except I put Trailmaster rear shocks on. These ones from Syncro Services are slightly longer than the standard VW ones but are long enough not to top out or over stress the CV joints. My front springs are original but my rear springs are from unknown parentage but the van is level side to side
