fuel filter renewal

Just a quick question???
just about to fit a new fuel filter to my 1985 1.9 watercooled transporter, and am a bit confused to where the filter should be? or does it not matter,
mine is situated in the engine compartment very close to the fuel pump, i thought i might find it under the van maybe halfway between the fuel tank and the engine? could somebody throw any light on whether it matters or should i just replace it where it is?

thanks in advance folks :D

If the cheap, plastic filter decides to leak. Where would you prefer the petrol to spray about? Under the van onto the tarmac, or into the hot engine bay just above the even hotter exhaust?

The only petrol filter in a 1.9 petrol watercooled should be near the petrol tank on the offside, you need to restore your system to that state.

Ian.

I have to take The Present Mrs Hulley (God Bless Her !) for her B12 jab at 11.30 then to Derby but we should be back by 2pm and our address is **4 4FX number 1 07792 116458.

Tell Dan it's the larger of the 2 inline petrol filters, should be about a quid. You're also going to need to replace the hose from the plastic to the pump which some muppetry's cut to put a filter in. IIRC it's 5.5mm i.d. and you'll need replacement fuel line clips to suit as well ... get 8.
