DG or DF - ANSWER FOUND :)

Having a bit of confusion over what engine I have. When I bought it I was told it was a 1.9 DG. Whilst I have been looking for some parts including a carb rebuild kit, I been informed that it more likely a DF as I have a Solex 34 PICT 5 fitted but after searching here (on the forum and Wiki) and via google, manuals and the like, I can find no definitive answer.

I have looked around the engine but can't see any codes amongst the years of muck that covers it (not that I know where I should be looking).

I'm also trying to find out what should be where the bodge repair has been made. Looking at other pic's, manuals etc... it looks like it should be a valve (bleed valve at a guess) with all three small pipes connecting to it. The repair currently has one pipe going to what looks like the remains of the original part, and a 'T' connector with the remaining two pipes connected and an additional bit of pipe on the 3rd connection that has been plugged with a bolt.

I don't know if the above bodge repair has any negative effect on the running of the engine, but would like to replace with the original part or at least a better repair.

Van is... '84 1.9 WBX Bus but I have no information on what engine was fitted when it left the factory.

Help much appreciated.

Yes that is a bodge job. The plastic connector is fragile and has a drainer on it. If you want a replacement Gunzl might well be able to supply one to you. Give them a call. They are very helpful. Good luck.

Under 'water cycle' under 'engine parts' and 'water coolded' there is a T piece number 251121438B which looks appropriate but as I said call them just to make sure. Sending them a photo of the engine compartment might also help. Good luck.

Cheers again... I'll take the repair off the bus tomorrow and see if there are any remains of a part no. on it (assuming any of it was the original part :| ).

Just had confirmed by member of my local VW club that it's a DF... now to get some parts ordered, clean and rebuild the carb and sort the 1000s of other things out

:ok

Further tip I forgot. If you are buying small items it is worth ordering them together as the freight charge is the same whether the order weighs a few grammes or a couple of kilos. :)
