Fuel tank sender

Hey guys :)

Are all the fuel tank spenders the same? I need a new one for my diesel :(

No difference between petrol or diesel, but 2wd and syncros are different.

There were a couple NOS on eBay recently, maybe try your luck there.

Are you sure you need one, as dirty/corroded sensor plug connector can cause irregular readings as I found out myself with mine. The gauge used to only ever register just over half a tank when in fact the tank was full to the brim. Carefully removed the plug from the side of the tank, cleaned, and brushed with wire brush, reconnected, and bingo, all good again.

I've never had a reading from it at all!! It's just deaded :shock:

It could still be just the connection mate, try removing it, cleaning it, then plugging it back in.

I can't even get at it without dropping the tank though? Is it worth dropping the tank to have to do it again?

Oh right, my bad, mine is a Syncro, so quite different I guess :oops:

I guess so as we have our senders at the front NS of the tank nicely pressed up against the floor!!

early senders are metal instead of plastic and are less prone to your fuel guage wandering up and down as you go up and down hills

Well mine is a 1982 bus so quite early. But I ant know until u get it out what's up with it. :|

Have you got any strange readings from anything else on your dash. The connections on the dash normally cause problems. Worth checking before having to remove the tank.

Hi mate,

No I've already hath dash out a few times to fix all that. It's just the fuel gauge. Got to be the sender now.

Dropping the tank down enough to check isn't actually that much of a big deal.
