we are looking to go to Scotland, touring this summer with the ole mutt as well, any hints on good sites, by water would be lovely, or a stunning view.... I've been searching and i'm finding it difficult making a choice....please help!!

Hiya Peggy, there's loads of cracking sites here, have you got an idea of where in scotland your gonna be visiting?

highlands, argyll, lochs, non town places, somewhere with good walks and bike trails...it knackers the pooch! lol

When are you planning to go? The midge are bad from the end of June on the west coast.

Here a few i like around Glen Coe area.

First one has no hook up.

2nd vote for Invercoe from me, been there 3 or 4 times, really beautiful waterside location.

Also Invermill just outside Dunkeld is a lovely wee site, and only a 15 minute walk into the village (http://www.visitdunkeld.com/perthshire-caravan-park.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Our starter motor packed up here, but don't let that put you off!

The site at Grantown on Spey ( http://www.caravanscotland.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) is a great base for touring the cairngorms, and Grantown is a bit quieter than Aviemore. We've also fancied Glenmore Campsite on the banks of Loch Morlich (good cycling), but it seems to book up well in advance.

Good stop off near Falkirk (and the Falkirk Wheel, no visit to Scotland is complete without a visit to the mighty Wheel!) for a couple of nights is Witches Craig (http://www.witchescraig.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), sits at the foot of Dumyat in the Ochil Hills. Really good facilities, free wifi, also close to Stirling Castle, and Wallace Monument. Just north of Stirling, Blair Drummond is good, and discounted entry to the nearby Safari Park if you stay over.

And if you're heading west, the site at Portban is a must (http://www.portban.com/PortBan/Port_Ban.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), stunning views to Jura, right on the beach, only downside is the time it takes to get there, leave at least 3 hours from Glasgow.

There are tons more, but prob best to book as many as you can in advance, esp if you want hookup, hardstanding, etc.

Can recommend either Luss or Millarochy campsite, both on the banks of Loch Lomond.
Luss is on the main road heading north (A82 I think). It's just up the road frOm where they filmed " take the high Road" not exactly warner studios but very scenic. You have to be a member of the c and cc I think.
Millarochy is the other side and when we stayed there a few years ago the wardens were by far the friendliest I have ever come across.

If your coming up to Scotland here are sites which I have used.
2 in Tyndrum.
Sligachan & Glenbrittle on Skye
Fort augustus.
Cannich at the head of Glen Affric.
If you fancy wild camping try the end ofGlen Etive.
Just hope you get good weather.

Glen Nevis site is nice too. Great for walking in the Glen or up the Ben. Nearby pub too

There is glenmore campsite at Aviemore it is right on the banks of loch morloch at the bottom of the cairngorms'it has plenty of dog walks and cycle paths. To the west of Fort William there is Arisaig with some nice campsites right on the beaches these sites have clean but basic toilet and shower blocks.If you plan to travel up the west coast i can highly recommend the sands campsite at Gairloch.

Yep, good campsite that. We stayed for a couple of nights in January about 4 years ago and loved it

If you want vast beaches then Fife is a good bet - we stayed at a lovely site in the hills above St Andrews in the summer with views of the bay across to Leuchars.

The east coast does have some nice spots,,and no MIDGE!

River view at Monifieth or Inverbervie you can fish out the back of your bus are two of my Favs.
