Opinions please.... no compression/misfire - new engine?

Hi all

So I've had two different mechanics look over my van and it's problems (previously thought to be a blocked jet issue - https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=89865" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and both concluded that there was no compression and that in order to find out what has gone wrong a full engine strip down is required.

Now, this I'm told would take around 10 hours to strip down and rebuild, so about £600. Then there would be parts too. Ouch.

One of the mechanics seemed to think that a new engine may be wiser, he said you can do an exchange deal for around £600 - I can't find anything on the web about this though - anyone know about this?

I'm at a loss here so any advice would be appreciated :)

Hi Ian

I wish I could answer that, should that be something the mechanic's i've spoken to could have advised on?

David - have you spoken to Elite VW in Basildon.

They do engine exchanges...but are also happy to give advice over the phone. is it drivable at all? U could take it to them for diagnosis....or they can come and collect

These boys know their buses.

(and you can ask them about tappets and valves and timing etc etc)

Hi Em

Thanks for that, I'll give them a shout and see what they recommend :)

The van will only drive a short way, and not up any hills at all :(

^^^^^What he says^^^^ sounds like a compression issue. Elite aren't too far from you so if it needs some work, then they'd be probably your best bet. I've got one of their 'recon' engines in my van and it runs a treat.
