3rd and 4th longer gear question.

I was just having a little think to myself an was wondering (without hassling Aiden and ringing him up as I know he is busy) just how much more percentage wise the longer 3rd and 4th gears are.

Lets say for example from

1, A 2.1dj petrol gearing set up.
2, A 1.6jx diesel set up.
3, The really short gearing the 16" has.

Anyone know as I would be really interested and find it extremely useful.

there`s a few diffenent 3rd and 4th combo`s aidan has collected some data from those that worked well.

i think you have build to suit yourself and use it`ll get.

it`ll also differ depending whether you 4.86 or 5.43 ect.

also depends on tyre size.

i can have a play with some figures and let you know what i think will work but you`ll then need to bash the info about with the other experianced guys on here.

i know your 5.43 but what tyre size . 235/75/15 ?????

OK lets use this for example.

If it was my 5.43 on 235/75/15 how much more percentage longer are the gears on Rich's van now if he was on 235/75/15 ?

Thanks Lee, that is quite abit. I was seeing how much I could gain by adding a bigger tyre, best I can manage is 4.26% with a 235/75/15, a far reach to 17% but 25% closer I guess. You dont know what the difference is with a 2.1dj box on 215/75/15's and Rich's do you?

4th will be the same as the 4.86 boxes used a shorter 4th than the 5.43`s. g, 1st, 2nd and 3rd would be longer by about 11% i think.

i`m 20% longer geared than your current set up in 3rd and 4th.

Thanks mate I always thought the 2.1dj petrol 14" box's had a longer final gear than the Jx geared 14"vans.

if you want the actual clock doing speedy cables do it. but the gears in the diff can be swapped about to alter the ratio too.
atm i`m 2 mph slow @ 70mph which is pretty acurate. i would rather be over on the speedo so i need to swap about again.
