Leisure battery not charging

I have a slight problem...
The leisure battery doesn't appear to charge either from driving or from being hooked up to 240v.
It will charge when plugged onto a trickle charger though.
Any suggestions?
I don't have a zig unit but some other kind of unit which is original and I believe all wiring to be original and all looks in good condition! It's a 1986 t25 watercooled if that helps! All the fuses are ok (none are blown)
I did post this as a reply to another forum thread but thought it might be better to start a fresh one!

If it's not charging on either the alternator or mains, then that points to a wiring issue - perhaps the charge relay? Is the normal battery charging OK whilst the engine's running?
We've just discovered that our leisure doesn't appear to be charging particularly enthusiastically on mains, but is charging just fine from the alternator - so I think we're looking at a dead charger (ours is the Westy "Buzzing Black Box" under the back seat - a name that's always lightly baffled me, as it doesn't buzz... Hmmm...

Being an early 'sleeper like mine you don't have the ability to charge the battery from hook up, it wasn't an option back then.
The split charge relay is most likely the problem
mine is in the engine bay. If you look at the alternator, there are four wires attached to it (hopefully)two thick wires and two thin...follow a trigger wire (thin wire) to the relay, where a thick wire goes there too.
you can replace this relay with a basic one from maplins... 70 amp is plenty big enough
Or it could be under the drivers seat.
