Just got the van through its mot and the engine was running fine (its a two litre air cooled). Now has become very rough running and lacks power. Seems like the spark plug on no three cylinder which was cross threaded by a previous owner has stripped and you can see the spark plug jumping up and down when the engine is running.

Question is wheter it is worth having it heli coiled or is it going to be better if someone from the club can sell me / source me a cylinder head??

Also what else do I need to look out for when I take the head off - what are the common problems or things to take note of?

If you can get it to syncronutz in Shotts Russel can put you a threaded insert in there . not a helicoil but a solid equivalent good for the life of the head.Can be done with engine still in. I was running my engine in the same state as yours for about 2 months I was worried that the imbalance of cylinders may increase engine wear but Russel didn't agree, said that would just increase fuel consumption, still best to get it sorted sooner rater than later.

Tell us more Bob. Are they Keenserts perchance. Seen them on the web, but have never used them.
