Knocking noise from front left wheel

Apologies in advance for this thread, i know how difficult it will be to diagnose a fault from my description alone, having said that... here goes.
When i bought the bus a couple of months back the previous owner had put the original wheels back on the front replacing the porsche alloys (allegedly for MOT reasons), having put the alloys (and adapters) back on the front i got a knocking noise from the front left wheel. I promptly removed the wheel to find that the adapter had unscrewed itself!! After alot of messing about, thread lock, and having to re-tap the adapter after destroying the alloy wheel bolts, the wheels and adapters are now secure but i still have a knocking noise, particularly when turning right. A quick google suggested CV joints, but of course this is not front wheel drive. What other components should i put on my hitlist ?

Cosmic..

I can almost guarentee it will be the wheel bearings. Jack the van up and check for play in the wheel. Spin the wheel and feel for binding and listen for any kind of grinding noise.

If the wheel has had spacers on it puts extra pressure on the bearings because of the increased offset.

Two more suggestions:

Knock on wheel weight catching the upright (some weights can stick out 5-10mm)
N/S/F? the square speedo cable clicking in it's drive hole (the hole wears round) should have a C clip in the groove which is often replaced with wire.
