good day all, just a quick question, i have a 1.9 dg fitted with rev limiting rotor arm, would there be a problem with fitting a non limited arm? and does anybody know why some have limiter and some don't, many thanks baldy

Thats a good question as I was interested in knowing the same. I recently replace my rotor arm, the one I removed was non limited, but since have noticed that the choke seems a little high, ie the revs seem to high when choke on, which got me thinking, was the limiter rotor arm fitted from factory, and in my case previous owner replaced with none limiter one?

factory fit is the rev limiter rotor arm

cheaper to fit a non limited arm so most are replaced without.

you can also go faster because you can take your engine to 8000rpm in each gear instead of the 5400 the limiter cuts in at and so saving your engine

try fitting a lower cut in one , say 4800 , will help with your fuel consumption!

Cheers Billy, I will invest in a limit rotor arm soon, and replace the new one I got recently from Brickwerks.

The simple fact is you often cannot here the engine tone (revs) with it being at the back over road/traffic and wind noise. This especially applies to campers which have additional matrass etc further dampening the sound.
Basically the petrol vans are so easy to 'over rev' that this small device safegaurds the engine.

I run with a no-limited one. Been on for three years. Unless you have a loud stereo or a damned quiet engine, you'd have to drive like a lunatic to over rev it.

I've fitted a non limit one and its fine. Mind you, I dont go screaming around in it, not at 1.42 a litre anyway :rofl

Yup. This conversation came up today with another T25 driver and he agreed with me. I'd say if you were a complete novice to driving these, the rev limiter is probably wise, but i became infuriated by the rev limiter kicking in way too early, coupled with the stupid cost of the thing if you have to replace it. Can't be many around that could afford to scream the guts out of them. I imagine Volkswagen introduced them to stop owners from thrashing them and then claiming under warranty :D

Personally I'd rather have those few extra revs when trying to get past a truck than that sinking feeling you get when the limiter kicks in and makes you look a total twonk. Fit a stock bay/beetle one but drive sensibly. In effect both Martin and I are right - its down to how you drive at the end of the day. I just see the rev-limiter one as a learners rotor arm 8)

Yes, there are two types although I think the lower rev one was for some type2s. Remember seeing them before the T25 came into being.
