Well off wild camping for the first time on Sat, been wanting to for a while but not got round to it. My other half still isnt convinced its a good idea so we will probably end up driving home at 4am due to lack of sleep.

As a general rule of thumb; if you haven't found anywhere suitable by the time the sun's going down then you would be best booking into a site. Many a time I've been driving around in the dark looking and probably passed dozens of spots but not seen them.

Cheers, all a bit of a new experience. Heading to a village near Matlock that has been recommended by a Wild Camping Aficionado on the forum , going to have a quick look in the light and head back there in the dark.

Thats the way to do it. What lots of people dont realize is that wild camping is usually somewhere to go to kip for the night for free. Go out and do stuff during the day then back to a nice quite place for the night, then up early for a drive to a nice place to make some breakfast before heading off somewhere else. It really makes me cringe when I see people in places not right out of the way with tables and chairs out, awnings erected and stuff all over the place and all during the daytime like you would expect on a campsite. They usually wonder why signs are then put out saying no camping.

Well what a cracking time had by all. I didnt get woken up at 4am by the other half and I had one of the best night's kip in the van ( may have something to do with the amount of ale drank ) up nice and early, bacon cob and off home.
