Guys,

I have recently bought a 'project van' a 1989 caravelle 'tintop'; Now unfortunately my old man has planted the seed of putting a porsche engine in the back and i'm looking towards a 944 engine ... would this work? I'm new to this mechanical mallarky but not bad with electrics I have read on a few pages about installing one but I haven't managed to find any information on whether this engine (going for a 2.5) is compatible and how much modification will be required. (I am looking at buying a 944 and using it as a donor vehicle) Any help/information is most appreciated!

anything can be done

but by the sounds of it you dont have nearly enough experience to do it yourself.

time / money / effort probably not worth it on your part.

cant see the benifits of that particular engine .

ring your insurance , test the water first.

make sure you add to the budget £1200 extra for the gearbox rebuild - your current box will be no good and the porsche box cant be used

your dad is probably doing the old ' stick a porsche engine in , they go straight in ' line , only very early Aircooled 4cylinder beetle looking engines do that! old myth

You'll need an Audi 5 cylinder bellhousing to even mount one. The Porsche gearboxes were a very similar pattern.

You will go through alot of pain and heartache, just to have the Kudo's of having a Porsche engine under the hood.
You will go faster with a subaru engine and it will be an easier install and with the benifit of hindsight it will probably end up cheaper.
