Clutch wount fit

Hi
Just tryed to fit new clutch as the old one was slipping. It wont sit flat aganst the flywheel yes its the wright way round. It is a recon engine with a refaced flywheel. It feals like the bolts holding the flywheel are to long (1.9dg watercooler) Any ideas?

228mm? Make? Sure you've been supplied with the correct clutch?

Yes it is a 228mm clutch. I think the flywheel might have been over engeniered but i dont have that much experenace. I was thinking of takeing 1 or 2 mm of the end of the bolts

And then when the friction plate wears down, you'll be back to square one. Can you take some pics? They must have taken a hell of a lot of metal off flywheel.

If its been machined that far, you might be better off buying this:
