Petrol to AFN ETDi

Dropped the Westy off with Mario in Telford yesterday for a petrol to ETDi conversion.

After a lot of thought and speaking to various people I decided electronic is definitely the way forward.

Here are the parts I have collected for the conversion. Obviously going from petrol to diesel requires a lot of additional parts, a few being syncro specific. The rest of the parts and engine are being supplied by Mario.

Should be ready just before Xmas. I cannot wait, no more struggling up hills and 16MPG!

Although a conversion is costly I certainly feel the Westy deserves it.

Oops think he may have missed some bits on my conversion. Can't see a green push bike or wellies anywhere on mine!!

I would say good luck, but you won't need it, mine is like a dream to drive and consistantly getting over 32mpg.

Cheers Rich :ok

And that's 28mpg if you factor in diesel costing 7% more than good clean petrol. Or a saving of 300 quid a year based on 10,000 miles.

Rich, is that with gear ratios modified or not?

Hi Al

Still running a normal 543 box with very little life in it. 486 Box from the doka is with Aidan right now. Getting longer 3rd and 4th then going into camper. 543 will get refurbed and go back in the doka. Not really sure what it will mean to the mpg. :ok

Box was rebuilt a couple of years ago. It's a 4.57 plus I'm running 225 75 16 tyres. 65MPH at 3000rpm

Once the conversion is done I will drive it for a few weeks to see if it works as is. Then send it to Aidan for oiling plates and longer 3rd and 4th if needed. Also Aidan can advise on anything else that needs doing.

No, but then there aren't many that get the same MPG as you. Obviously my MV needs some adjustment, but even with driving very, very carefully I could only mange 18MPG. Plus on hills it is really underpowered. This is not helped by the 4.57 final drive and 225 75 16 tyres.

@ tom

i run 2.1 and similar gears to you for far too long. mtdi was a big improvement in torque but riches etdi is really something else.
