Hi chaps,

I have the 2.0lt cu Aircooled 1980 engine and the autochoke seems to be always open. If i take the air filter off the top of the twin carbs i can see the butterflies open and this is regardless of a cold or warm engine. I also notice there is a piece of wire connected to a rocker on the 'flies and on a spindle going into a green thing with a wire attached on the front of the carbs and that looks a bit wobbly - i'm assuming this should be straight? I haven't got a clue how this mechanism is supposed to work...

oh dear.

someone has fitted a single central twin choke webber in place of the twin solex that should be there.

that carb will effectivly be strangling your motor.

to get it anything like it should be then it really needs a trip to the rollers to be jetted.

even then its not as good as the twin solex.

do yourself a favour and save up for a set of delortos.

your choke is powered by the big brass cylinder on the front of the carbs. it should have a 12v feed but it looks like the choke has not been set up as it should close on its own account when cold or the throttle pumped.

it also looks like some of your engine bay seal is missing which is not good either

get the seal sorted asap then get some dells I can vouch for their liberating performance... you won't believe the power they can unleash.. I can guarantee you won't get the grin off your face

Thanks chaps - looks like I need to save some cash and at the very least get a pair of Solex.

Looks like I may have a pair of Dell DRLA 40's. I know i'll need linkage etc. but its the jetting i'm more concerned about. Does anyone know of a decent tuning/jetting shop with a rolling road in the South Norfolk/Suffolk area?

When you check the choke take the top off. A lot of people make the mistake of turning it so the coil inside is too tight which restricts its movement and forces it open (I think). Have a look and you will see what I mean.

i dont know any in your area but jim at stateside tunning (google him) will be able to give you some off the shelf that will run ready for fine tuning on the rollers

you wont regret the dells
