Steam, water and all maner of s**t

Can anyone shed any light on this, completely new to watercooled so totally flummoxed?
Have had the van serviced and MOT'd by a garage who chabged oil and coolant.
Been running sweetly on the drive and sounds well enough. Had a couple of small runs around the village and about no more than a couple of miles.
Went to fill up - no probs. Returning home was told petrolwas leaking - thought the tank had ruptured. Stopped in a layby to see steam pouring out of the back vents.
crawled home and listened to the bubbling sounds.
Water appeared to be coming from around the offside head and boiling away.
The temp gauge never moved, and tha rad was cold.
Any idea and where do I start looking - want to go away for first camp next weekend.
Ta, Paul.

Blurb55,
I am no barrack room lawyer, but I would be phoning the garage that did the service and getting them to take it away and put it right. If they changed the coolant, they appear not to have bled the system correctly, and probably do not even know how it should be done.
Result, air lock no coolant circulation through the system to the radiator.
That's my tuppence worth anyway.

Read this
wiki link so that you have all the right info to baffle them with.

Did the garage bleed the rad properly?

Air lock...you can try your self but I'd be back in the mechanics face with a "not happy" look

Thank all for the advice - the particular garage will be getting a visit come Monday.
As we only ran for about a mile or so "hot" what is the likelihood of any serious damage?

Non at all
Excellent

Thanks, Kev.
In 2 minds whether I want to peapproach the halfwits at the garage (will check if descend from Wombourne folks!!).
Tempted to follow Mocki's "how to" and bleed and fill the system.
I am really beginning to despise "professional" mechanics.
Thanks for the sage words of wisdom.
Paul.
PS: bloody good job we dont have a cat, it would be orbiting the moon by now.

I have just finished fitting an exhaust where the origional bracketry was junked years ago.
But in true black country fashion we've bodged it and it works...
I'm a tit man for sure but give me brains and opposable thumbs anyday!
One too many pulleys

Amongst all of the other disasters to happen to day the alternator belt has just popped.
Now I have another courtesy of a rather fast dash top GSF in Sheffield - who again were very helpul and stayed open past 4pm to get me a new one.
Now when I come back to fit the belt I have a conundrum.
Fromthe main crank pulley I have a belt going to the aircon (US import), one going to the power steering.
This leaves one belt notch on the crank pulley, one on the alternator, a spare on the Aircon and a small lonely pultey on the lower lhs od the engine looking from the rear.
Can anyone identify this and advise whether it is driven in line with the alternator or from the aircon? Or is it just there for decoration?
May swap the T25 for a nice push bike!!!!

Paul,
I have 5 push bikes, but only 3 (I think

) pulleys.
If your question is which 'pulley to put the belt on' Answer is which ever one is inline, can you use a straight edge? (I mean is there room)
If I have completely lost the plot,(which is not usual

) someone with more pulleys (and pulling power no doubt) will be along 'dreckly'
(thats a bit of Devonshire I do believe) to help.

Paul,
That was a case of 'fastest finger' I do believe!
Hope the water pump is OK and has not jammed due to earlier problems and caused the belt to go

Source of water

The water appears to coming from close to the cylinder head on the off side I cannot make out whether it is from the head or the coolant inlet pipe, but it does appear that the garage have put a new circlip and some gasket type material on this joint.
I think there may be an indepth discussion on Monday!

Maybe thats where they drained the system from. Not by the book as I recall.
