Steering wheel locked

Hi all,

I was sat in my van with the engine turned off cleaning the steering wheel. I turned it right 90 degrees and heard a "clunk". Now the wheel won't move in either direction. Also, I can't turn the key in the ignition (there's plenty of room to physically turn it, the wheel isn't in the way). Any ideas what could have happened? I have the haynes manual but don't want to go dismantling things in an exploratory fashion when someone may have a good idea what to try first.

Many thanks!

hello,

I'm sure you've thought of this, but have you tried applying a lot of force in the same direction as you were originally turning at, and simultaneously turning the key? You might find that the lock has coincided with full travel of the wheels or they are against the curb or something is blocking them.

Hope you sort it out.

Ewen

Thanks for the replies! A wiggle of key and wheel back and forth did the trick - Cheers!
