We have a B reg 1984 1.9 dg Caravelle, the clutch started to slip and now has gone.

I have changed clutches on my Aircooled splitty before but not on the T3 Watercooled.

In the splitty its easy to drop the engine out and replace te clutch. Anyone have any experience / advice on the best way to do this on a T3?

I dont know why but i thought someone told me you drop just the gearbox out?????

anyone seen any pictorial guides on line?

Gearbox out on a wbxer ... far too much plumbing to be messing with.

Like Ian says it's gearbox out but it can open up a new can of worms when you find cv bolts seized, clutch pipes rusted, seals leaking, boots perished and driveshafts bastardised by a hamfisted moron

The CV's at the gearbox or the ones by the hubs?

And why exactly do you need to remove CV joints? I don't.

I'm assuming you need to remove the driveshafts at the gearbox side to remove the box

You do, except if you just go for the gynaechologist's clutch swapping technique where the box is pulled back as far as the inner CV's will go.

I've seen this done and it ain't pretty to watch. :(

Right tools and job done in no time. Actually, worst box to take out is the Beetle as the hubs come attached. Hated doing those.
