1985 Westy Syncro......would you or wouldn't you?

Have been pondering over this on mobile.de
http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/showD ... =152101227
Any comments from our expert panel of judges?
What might be the pit falls buying a "cheap" Westy Syncro?
The Westy interior is unusual compared to the majority of Westy's I've looked at (wider R&R bed by the looks of it)
All input gratefully received

I don't believe that is a genuine Westy.
Although if everything syncro works it is a bargain.

Found this which just adds to the confusion of..... is it or isn't it a Westy????

Owner says it's type 253 299 which should mean it's a Westy....right?

No plaque with the Westfalia conversion number on the rear seat next to the sliding door
You can see one on the top left hand side of the kick board next to the slider in this one.
http://www.camperinterior.webfotos.co.u ... ia_29.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also look at how much forward the rear seat is on the one on the first link compaired to the genuine Westy in the second, the more you look at it the more obvious it isnt a factory Westy. The first one in the link isnt a real Westy IMHO.
PS the water filler is in the wrong place too.

Genuine westy or not ...the interior looks very usable to me.
I'd be a lot more worried about the B-pillar and the other seams, especially the ones behind the kitchen ...they do look decidedly crispy in the pics

I wonder if it could be a Sport Joker Syncro???? Production dates and colour ext/intr match their description.
Just found this which seems to confirm it, although it is lacking the Westfalia plate found on the right hand side of the R&R bed.

It does however have the fridge, sink (fresh and waste water) and 2 hobs!! (external gas tank and night heater)...which is a bonus

It is a mosaic westy. In other word a van, caravelle converted with a kit from westfalia after it had been sold by VW. Not a factory built camper.

I would if I was prepared to add £4500 on top for remedial repairs. You have to think if it would set you up in negative equity like a house? Or if like me you see it as a long term investment in your families memories of growing together and seeing stuff and that. Campervan are abit like that, its kind of un selfish spending loads of money on them because the whole family benefit.

If I get it, it 'll definitely be a long term investment.
My main aim is to have a camper I can use to take my kids skiing in the winter and wild camping/mountain biking in the summer.
The good thing with a T25 is the possibilities are endless. Reliability?......now that's another thing! I'm going into this project with my eyes wide open.
Jed - what have you included in yout £4500 budget?
Thanks for your input....will keep you posted on the outcome.
