Random Intermitant stalling/idling fault

Hi.i dont venture on forums much but would really appreciate some advice
on a stalling/idling fault my 1987 T25 1.9dg auto caravelle has developed.
it 1st developed a similar fault in 2009 where as i travelled to bristol & just
as we got there the engine stalled on slowing.started ok,idled for a few seconds
then cut out again, after Rac recovery home, stripped carb, cleaned out & all
seemed fine. This year i started to have a problem where as im slowing to a
stop the engine stalls, will restart & revvs ok but as soon as left to idle she dies.
after getting going & keeping revs up to get moving, after approx 10 minutes of
driving the fault clears & all is well again.this happens very randomly, hot or cold
inclines or flats.
had carb stripped & cleaned with new gasket kit this year in case this was causing
prior to this a new stainless exhaust system fitted (could this be linked??)
as i say fault is random & there is no set pattern,i can drive 60 miles & sometimes have fault
sometimes dont or i can drive less than a mile & maybe it will do it.
sorry for the long windedness.any advise of where to start muchly appreciated

Reads to me like the idle speed cut off valve may be faulty... or is not opening correctly.

do you know where this is?

Front of carb and has a black wire connected to it.
Disconnect it, turn on the ignition then reconnect and you should hear a click.
A better check would be to remove it and check its operation visually.
Refer to the haynes for removal
