Hi all
I'm a complete novice and was thinking about putting some chunky tyres on my 2.1 petrol 92 multivan. any ideas?

It depends on what you mean by "chunky"
If you mean wider road tyres, 205/70 R14 are quite good, just reduce the tyre pressure to compensate for the wider footprint and you will get better traction on grass and a softer ride on roads, although road noise may increase.
If you mean knobbly mud grabbing off road tyres, there is a wide selection available, but if you only use them on normal road surfaces, you will notice them wearing out quicker than road tyres.
I do not claim to be a tyre expert, however, and there are some very knowledgeable people on here that could probably advise you better than me.

Yes, please define "chunky"
Anything knobbly and dirt bound will not handle so nice as a good set of roads in 90% of conditions.. and factor in that there are naff all "knobblies" in 14" means its limited..
A set of mud and snows is poss in 185's..
If you want a meaner stance then as said 205/70r14 is the factory fitment and pressures are listed on the sticker normally.. Load rating is quite important also.. not many 205/70 in reinforced/van spec.. remember your van could gross at 2.4 tons...
and thats about it I am afraid..

OK so to clarify
I want my multivan to look more aggresive, It had some porsche wheels on it when I bought it and the overall look was very slick (partly cos its was lowered at factory by 30mm) but i don't know weather I like that look. I love the way the syncro's look and wondered if I could get away with that. I also wondered if the was a bull bar that you can get?

To be honest, nothing in 14" is gonna do much.. 205/70 are as good as it gets, especially on a lower van.
Bare in mind bigger diameter tyres will alter the gearing and may rub in the arches.. its poss to go a little bigger, but realy you want to keep a similar rolling diameter.. but again.. in 14" tyre choice is limited..

How about Merc ML 16" wheels in black?
They are wearing 215/65 boots.

i have these on my van
standard wheels but prob the largest commercial tyre avaiable
215 14c
1120/1215kgs each max load!
8ply
different makes have different speed ratings , mine are q which is 99mph- more than enough!
gives me just under 4mph speed difference at 3000 revs
although some may not like the look, as it fills the rear arch!
other than this if you like steel wheels you need to go to merc steels 15 inch. lots more choices
