BUZZER OF DOOM!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

Unortunately we have the buzzer of doom problem (the oil light and warning buzzer comes on intermittently) but it is happening more often than not now.

We recently took it to a vw camper specialist to get the air blowers fixed and asked him to have a look at the buzzing. He tried all the tricks in the book to stop it buzzing but no joy.

He suggested if we dont want a warning buzzer then we could cut the wire that runs to the buzzer, but he wasnt sure which one it was. He also suggested getting a new instrument pod.

The buzzing comes from the speedo by the sounds of it, or at least around that area but we cant seem to find the actual buzzer.

Does anyone know which wire needs cutting or where we would get a new instrument pod?

The vans a 2.1 LHD 1986 Westy

Heres a picture of the back of the speedo: (apparently according to the vw specialist if we wanted to cut the wire it is one of these)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Paul

Hello,

I presume your oil pressure is ok, and you have tested that, and so this must be an electrical fault? If you disconnect the high revs oil pressure switch does it still happen? There is a mod to the PCB for the buzzer of doom - which is in the speedo pod and so not in the PCB wiring - I really wouldn't go cutting that up. I would first isolate the problem to the dash pod, and in the first instance clean up your PCB multiconnector. The buzzer should go off above 2000 rpm when the high revs oil pressure sensor earths, so you could have a problem with the wiring for the revs or for the high revs oil pressure sensor. Do you have a rev counter and is working ok if so?

If you really can't sort if by doing this then check this out:

might be illuminating

Good luck sorting it out
