So the windscreen comes out tomorrow and once I have done the necessary repairs it will need to go back. I have a new VW seal, but the question I have is, do I try the rope trick and put it back myself? or do I get a professional round to pop it back in?

How easy is it to do the rope trick?

I have performed the rope trick on front and rear screens single handed (safer with an assistant!)
Used thick guy rope or thin wahing line.
Everything should be clean - no sealant required.
Fit the seal on the screen
wrap the cord round the chanel where the body fits, ends crossed over at the bottom then taped up to the inside of the screen.
Place the screen in the hole , try and get the rubber over the lip on the bottom edge as you do it .
From inside start pulling the rope out so that it lifts the edge of the seal up , your assistant needs to gently press the glass in at the same time so that the edge of the rubber drops back down inside the van.
Work up both sides together , make sure the screen is settled downwards before working accross the top.
A certain amount of sweating and/or cursing may be required

If its a VW seal or close to, rather than a JK one, it'll go in easy

I still get a big expanse of white where the video is supposed to be Jed. Might be useful to show what plugin is needed as I can't be the only one who sees nothing.

No, again white page where video should be. Thing is, anyone that encounters this won't be drilling around to find out why, they'll just move on which is why i think a link to required plugin wouldn't go amiss. I presume if you join Vimeo, all this gets installed automatically but for those that haven't, it'll be blank page time. Could be some oddball codec I suppose but I run a comprehensive set and those videos are still blank.

Even plays are work when a lot of vids don't

It must be something your end. The Vimeo link is just the same as a youtube link and should work.

Agree, but I think the point I'm making Jed is for those that experience the same, they'll just surf elsewhere which is never a good thing but happens all the time on the web for various reasons. It does seem that it will load in IE but not firefox although I run with every codec going and the latest version of Flash. I could switch to IE but its always been a target for hackers and incrediblyt slow to load/run. In fact the only time I use IE is with certain content management systems that only seem to work through IE.

On topic though, its rare its just a worn out seal that needs replacing - normally the corners have rusted out Not the easiest thing to weld up but invariably the solution.

Try Google Chrome, it works well, and to me, its less bloated that Firefox, and the support, plug-ins, and extensions are far more reliable. You can even export/import your bookmarks etc so no loss of resources.
