hi
were new to the forum and have recently bought a 2.0ltr twin carb pop top 1981,
we are trying to get an average mpg and we put 15ltrs of unleaded in and got 62miles,
we worked it out that its doing about 18 miles to the gallon around town, is that about right???......
any help or advise would be gratefully receieved........ cheers mike :idea :idea

if you set them up right and do a couple of mods you can get around 28mpg on a german trip at a steady 60 i managed 30mpg

if you get rid of the solex carbs and go for the dellorto or webbers then you have more chance of a better set up to get more mpg but you know you would go for more power and sod the mpg. i would :D

When in town driving style makes a huuuuge difference to MPG - don't rush.

The Solex carbs are good but they're not the most sophisticated devices, and they have great big accelerator pumps to avoid weakness on throttle transitions. The trick I've found is not to use them any more than necessary, so don't press the pedal quickly, move it steadily to just above your present speed as you accelerate to your chosen speed, and avoid throttle transitions that aren't needed.
This seems fussy but I've found it makes a noticable difference, and it didn't take long to become just my normal way of driving it.

Also make sure your van is running right, small changes is engine tune and trim make surprising differences to fuel consumption- air filter, spark plug condition, timing and throttle balance in the case of the 2.0l twin carb engine, they all make a noticable difference.

hi we just had all the carbs set up last week and although its running much better i would have thought it would have been slightly better than 18 but alot of my journeys were very short ones and we live out in the sticks so there was alot of stop start trips,
cant wait for next year were gonna use it as often as we can..........mike :ok
