fuel economy question

HI everyone
I'm a newbie in search of my first T25, preferably a pop top westy. My burning question though is what's the best engine for fuel economy & what sort of average speeds do I need to be doing on the motorways? Also what's the fuel tank capacity? do they vary between models. I'd like to work out the fuel cost of a trip to say Cornwall from the Midlands, about 300 miles.

Best regards

Mat

Hi and welcome to the forum. :ok

We do the 600 mile round trip to Cornwall every May to a club camp (or have done up to now :| ). We run a fully loaded hightop 2.1 5 speed petrol running on lpg and get an average of 19 to the gallon on gas sat at 65mph, giving a £ for £ equivalent of ~32 mpg compared to petrol. On petrol we get around 20mpg. There is no significant power difference between petrol and lpg and with a 2.1 we don't struggle up the hills on the A30.

Fuel tank capacity is 13 gallons for all 2wd models, our lpg tank holds 52 litres which takes us 180ish miles.

Hope this helps, Ian.

I'm sure I get better than 20mpg on a nice 60/65 mph run - about 26ish :?

maybe I'm just in denial and hiding behind my rose tinted glasses :run

I get the same as Ian but on a tired old 1.9dg

Thank god for LPG it stops me thinking twice about going anywhere. Something I would have to do if I ran on petrol.

Though LPG has nearly doubled in the last 5 years.........still about 55% the price of petrol though

Cost me roughly £850 to convert at the time (roughly £1000 now) and took about 9 months to break even. So for the last 4.5 years I have saved money every time I turn on the ignition

LPG is on my list of things, my BMW is already converted so I know the plus side :)

I have a 1.9 dg on LPG and driving at a conservative 55mpg it get around 23mpg on a run - so about 40mpg petrol equivalent.

Not quick, but I'm a more relaxed person because of it.

that's a bit optimistic from my experiences, have to ask how have you got these figures?

our holdssworth villa 3 2.1dj averaged 24mpg on a 1000mile trip to germany. now sold
my 2.1mv doka (syncro) used daily averaged around 20-21mpg over 20k
now 2.3 volvo engine again used daily gets a little more than the mv but has more power and torque.
