Clutch replacement?

Hi all,
Am not a syncro owner (yet) but am looking into getting one.
I have a 73 bay project I am restoring at the moment so have a bit of mechanical knowledge. Then again bit of knowledge = scary thing!
What would be involved in replacing a clutch on a syncro? Is it a DIY job? Or best done by a garage? Any ideas on cost?
TIA

Remove the engine protection bars, drop the prop off the nose of the gearbox, (this bit's for petrols only - unbolt the o/s driveshaft, remove the diff-lock actuator (if fitted)), drop the starter off, remove the gearshift mechanism, support the engine, remove the six M8 bolts that bolt the two mounts at the front of the gearbox in place, then slide the gearbox forward whilst it's on something that will support it safely, replace clutch, re-assemble.
If you were really keen, on a petrol you would drop it right out and replace the 50p brass bush that supports the starter motor shaft, just to be sure.

Thanks Diamond,
So a slow paced weekends work? Making notes and documenting with pics all the way.
Are the replacement parts easy to come by?

and change the gearbox oil at the same time too, as its a lot easier filling it up not in situ.

Apple polisher
If you were Harryman, you'd spot the tank straps were corroded while the gearbox was out, so you'd source a better replacement made in stainless steel before putting the gearbox back in.
While the gearbox was out and as the fuel tank could now come out easily you might as well have that out and replace the breather network on top of it. While the tank was out, there might be some corrosion on the steel above the tank, so you might as well rust-treat that.......... and so it goes on.
Right, time for a quick sweep up?

That's what I am afraid might happen if I try to attempt it myself. The "whislt this is out I might as well....." Which is why my bay has taken me so long.

Some more nonsense right here:
on syncros you'll find a
fuel pump hanging off the nearside tank strap, and it might well be corroded to the point it is leaking, or will be soon. Loosen it and check it thoroughly (white alloy corrosion powder), you'll usually find evidence of some corrosion around where the mount goes however hard you avert your eyes! This is NOT uncommon - think about £65 + Vear And Tear
Ask Sam about removing the tank, I just made up some s/s straps and pulled it back up, think Sam removed his and did the biz... lever out job - not fun, avoid if possible

Or ask me, as I've completed all the jobs listed in the above post, too.....

You've heard of
Ask Sam software, now fresh out of shrinkwrap, we have
Ask Thomas...

think Sam removed his and did the biz
biz = replace gravity vent valves (as these were causing a problem), bung the tank back in, van back on the road.
Sam.

So where do I get myself one? I'd prefer a double cab, but single cab considered too. Also not a project, my Westy is enough on it's own.
