Hi,

We are going off in the van round Wales in 2 weeks and was wondering if anybody has any suggestions of nice places to go/stay??

Shell Island would have been my first suggestion too, but I guess it depends which part of Wales you're heading to. Pembrokeshire is breathtaking - I haven't camped there so can't recommend any sites but Barafundle Bay and Broadhaven Beach are stunning (the Welsh Caribbean) and there are some great coastal walks.

Silky, those two spots look nice, thanks for the advice. We were thinking of going down the coast from the top of wales but it generally looks pretty nice in pembrokeshire so we might head straight down there then make our way back up the coast.

Jed, we're pretty into our walking, pubs etc.

If you are going to start up north try Gwern gof Uchaf. On the A5 just east of Ogwen Corner and right under Tryfan. Basic but if you like your walking you have the Glyders, Tryfan itself and Devils Kitchen all within reach. Been going up there for nearly 30 years and still keep going back!

hi folks

i always like to take in a little place called skrinkle in south pembs,
find the youth hostel, you will see the car park opposite.

with yha on the left drive straight on and round the old military
slabs to the cliff top, you will see the metal staircase down to
the spot im thinking of, great place on a wild day, you can walk
to lydstep caverns from there along the coast path toward caldey
island.

Shell island is great

I also found this great campsite which is very close the shell island. Very relaxing and has some streams that kids can play in. It also has a couple of walks to check out the waterfalls. I had two nights there before shell island and found it to be great. Campfires are allowed, showers are clean and you can just turn up and pitch anywhere. They have electric spaces but they will charge phones and freeze your ice packs.

I love Shell island, i go at least 4-5 times a year, but this campsite offers something a bit different and is a bit more sheltered, if the wind picks up!

I have travelled in Canada, US, Most of Western Europe, some of Eastern Europe and every time I go for a walk on this peninsula I find a new breath taking view, and I have lived here all my life. The whole of Wales has lots to offer so wherever you pick I'm sure you'll have a great time, I'm just a little bit biased to home turf.

Whatever you do - DON'T try and wild camp on Gower.

Only place I know of in the UK that actually uses a chopper with thermal imaging cameras to spot unauthorised campers. Then they send in local council "enforcers" in full-on SWAT gear to move people on and take details......

Then the waterfall country is for you!
It's on the Brecon Beacons, there's a pub right at the start of the walk by the information centre follow that up with a lovely walk through the woods for some stunning scenery.

how did you get on? where'd ya get to?

Thanks for all the advice. Went to north wales, started off on the lyn peninsula then made our way up to anglesey then over to snowdon, found some good places along along the way.

Had a great time.

yeah can recommend the lobster pot. Me and wiffe ate there last summer and I had Oysters. Very good viagra i must say
