Can I get some advice as the best sort of filler to use for bodywork repairs, also sanding and preparing for spraying, angle grinder type tool with relevant attachments or good old fashioned elbow grease?

I use UPOL Fantastic filler.
For preparing for spraying, I intend to do most of it by hand.

I used this one on my van and found it quite good: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HB-Body-Light ... 4cf9f8082b

I didn't buy it from that seller though, but others sell it too, so check the prices  And for detail finishing, I like Plastic Padding PP100. Not exactly cheap, but a very good product.

As for the rest, its a bit subjective; I like 3m products but they are expensive. You would need a d/a sander idealy for the rubbing down work, with various grits to get a decent finish to then apply your paint. Grits start at P40 -very coarse- to 1500 odd, but I mainly used 80/120/180/240 grits and then primed up from there.

A 4 or 4.5 in. grinder with one of those hard backed flap type discs are good too.

A lot depends on your budget though, its a fairly expensive job..
